Fantastic piece, Todd! My favorite piece thus far from any writer. And who knows, maybe next time we do speed dating we'll use some of your suggestions. One suggestion is one that we have already considered:

"it simply does not cater to diverse sexual preference. The homosexual community at our beloved university has not been represented here in any way. Perhaps next time this can be taken, along with my suggestions, into more careful consideration."

The reason we didn't offer a homosexual speed dating option has only a few reasons, but the most important one to remember is this:
Not everyone is out. And not everyone is ready to be outted.
In a given community 2-10% of the community is homosexual. If we have an event where 10% of our 400 person community shows up, Only 40 people show up. THEN, if 10% of our community is homosexual, only 4 people of those who showed up are homosexual. Now the other thing to consider is in that 10% of our community, not all of them have come out. So you can see why for our very first speed dating event we didn't have an option for alternative sexualities. This is something I would love to look further into, and we will be working further with our queer liaison on this.

Again, my favorite Runner piece yet! Thank you!
