This week in comedy

A look at this week’s comedy shows around Vancouver courtesy of the Comedy Killers.

It’s a bit of a sparse week in Vancouver comedy, unfortunately. This week marks the beginning of Christmas party season, so make sure to double check with venues before heading down to shows, as they may be pre-empted in favour of private parties.

That said, we’ve picked out a few great rooms and shows for you to check out.

On Tuesday, head down to the Kino Cafe on Cambie for a great pro-am show. Steve Allen’s been booking that room for years, and it always draws an eclectic and awesome mix of comics. Admission is free and the show starts at 9:30 p.m.

If you don’t have late classes Wednesday night, head out to the Second Story Theatre in Port Coquitlam for some improv with table 23. Tickets are only $2 and the show starts at 8 p.m.

Thursday is a busy day. It is the last night of the season for Comedy at the Kingston, and the lineup is a good one this week (Comedy Killers favourites Dan Willows and Melanie Rose are on the bill.) Tickets are $5 and the show starts at 9 p.m. There’s also Flip’n’Funny Comedy at Lafflines, which is a multicultural comedy show featuring Dino Archie, Meena Mann, Art Factora, Shane Clark, Dennis Litonjua and Sean Emeny. Tickets are $12 at the door and the show starts at 8 p.m. AND Tom Segura will be at the Comedy Mix from Thursday to Saturday. Check thecomedymix.com for ticketing info.

Saturday, we recommend keeping it in Surrey. Simon King, Ivan Decker and John Cullen are three of the best comics working in the GVRD and you can see them at the Newton Cultural Centre (yes, that’s a thing) for just $15 if you buy in advance (or $20 at the door.) It’s a fundraiser for the Royal Canadian Theatre Company.

If it’s not snowing on Sunday, pop on down to Granville Island for the TheatreSports Battle of the Rookies. Some of Vancouver’s best amateur improvisers go head-to-head to win…well, nothing. But it’ll be a fun show. Tickets $8, show at 7:30 p.m.

Monday is going to be a mindblowingly good Bobbers show, so get your butts down to Oasis on Davie well before the 7 p.m. start time. (And while you’re there, order an Alien Urine Test. Because apparently that’s a beverage.) It’s a whole bunch of Vancouver’s funniest improvisers, and we heard a rumour the wonderful and talented Alan Pavlakovic is hosting this week – that guarantees a great show.

PLUS, it’s free. (Donations are appreciated though.)

See you next week!
