If you like comedy and boobs, you’re going to love this week.
On Tuesday, the Fictionals improv troupe are celebrating the first anniversary of Show Us Your Wits, their comedy/burlesque show. According to their Facebook page, “nearly all of The Fictionals” will be performing (that’s an all-star improv lineup, for those not in the know) as well as special guests Ian Boothby – a Comedy Killers favourite – and burlesque dancer Connie Lingus. And apparently there’s a boobie cake, which is just plain awesome. (Cafe Deux Soliels, 7 p.m., tickets $5.)
Wednesday, get BuckNasty at The Hyde. It’s a no-holds-barred, raunchy stand up show that always features Vancouver’s top talent. (The Hyde, 8:30 p.m., tickets $5.)
Thursday, get on down to B.B.Ques in Yaletown for the “Chucklevember” edition of the Amy Wilding Show. There will be improv, stand up and sketch comedy as well as live musical acts. Amy Wilding knows how to pick ’em, so expect a gut-bustingly funny show. (B.B.Ques, 7:30 p.m., tickets $10.)
Former Vancouverite and Live at Gotham alum Glenn Wool is at The Comedy Mix Thursday through Saturday, and he’s got the devastatingly hilarious Darcy Michael and Sean Emeny backing him up. If you miss this show, you’re crazy. (More info at thecomedymix.com)
If you’re in the mood for ridiculous fun on Saturday, catch GIANTS II. In the second installment of the respectable-theatre-meets-amazing-comedy show series, local comedy heavyweights will be rap-battling each other, Pump Trolley will be doing sketches (it’s worth going for that alone) and Canadian Comedy award nominee Morgan Brayton will be doing … something funny. (The Cultch, 10 p.m., tickets $10.)
Rookie League at VTSL is going to be a doozy this week. Amongst the rookies are Comedy Killers favourites Tom Hill (Pump Trolley, Hip.Bang) Daniel Chai (The Fictionals) Sarah Szloboda (basically every improv troupe in town) Chip Ellis (Who-Tang Clan) and Dan Dumsha (The Bobbers.) With a cast like that, you’re guaranteed to have a good time. (The Improv Centre, 7:30 p.m., tickets $8.)
And on Monday, stand up at The Corner is your best bet. This room is a favourite among local stand ups, and it’s always well-booked. (The Corner, 8:30 p.m., tickets $10.)
We’re going to end this week with some sad news. A lot of rooms have been closing lately, and the latest casualty is the Kingston’s Thursday night pro-am show. Producer Johnny Scoop expects that he’ll still be doing a Thursday show once a month, as well as some longer contests in the summer. The Monday open mic will continue as usual.
