Senate student election results still not available

Issue pending review in June

Over a month has passed since new student representatives were elected to the Kwantlen Polytechnic University board of governors, but the results for new student senators still remain unavailable.

Zena Mitchell, KPU’s chief returning officer, is withholding the results until they can be validated in the midst of a “potential voter irregularity.”

Mitchell would not offer any specifics in an email May 24, except that the irregularity “is being further explored.”

She says the senate elections appeal committee will review the matter in June, and results will not be posted until they conclude their proceedings.

“We are working to ensure due diligence and due process in our exploration of the issue,” wrote Mitchell in a previous email in April.

This story was printed in the May 25 edition of The Runner, and has since been updated to include new comments from Mitchell.
