The singer will take the stage at BC Place Stadium on April 27
Diljit Dosanjh is scheduled to perform at Vancouver’s BC Place Stadium in two months. He is set to make history with the biggest Punjabi music event at the stadium, which has a capacity of 54,500 seats. In 2022, Dosanjh became the first Indian artist who sold out nearly 18,000 seats at Rogers Arena for his Born to Shine world tour.
From starting out in Dosanjh Kalan, India to making Billboard hits and even having a Madame Tussauds wax figurine, it wasn’t a sudden success for Dosanjh.
He began his career performing kirtan (devotional songs) at gurdwaras during his youth. Whether it’s his first album Ishq Da Uda Ada in 2003 or his viral stage announcement at Coachella, “Punjabi aa gaye Coachella oye” (Punjabis are at Coachella), his success feels personal as every one of his fans have been grooving to his blockbuster songs for over a decade.
Despite his rise on the global stage, he remains true to his roots when he supported the farmers’ protest in India. During his speech, he asked the government to accept the farmers’ demands and gave them courage when he said, “Hats off to all of you, farmers have created a new history. This history would be narrated to future generations.“
The singer has often said his turban represents his identity and emotions, and as a result, has had to turn down multiple offers for roles in films, including one from his favourite director, because they required him to remove his turban for the part.
There have been a number of occasions where the singer has stolen the limelight, not for his singing, but his wardrobe and fashionable attire.
He wore an all-black combination of kurta and tehmat, a vest and turban, for his performance at Coachella. Completing his look with Air Jordans and gloves, he represented Punjab’s traditional look.
Apart from his singing and fashion sense, the Punjabi sensation captured everyone’s attention with his cooking videos on social media, which led to offers for various T.V. commercials, advertisements, and cooking shows.
Dosanjh is also scheduled to appear in his latest film Amar Singh Chamkila, on Netflix this year. The movie dives into the life of Amar Singh Chamkila from Punjab who rose to fame and popularity in the 1980s due to his music.
Dosanjh has paved the way globally for other artists in the Punjabi community. All of his songs have a catchy, addictive vibe to them, and I can never stop listening to them. He is my favourite singer today, tomorrow, and yesterday. My fingers are crossed as I am hoping to attend his concert with my friends.
