Vancouver’s Gastown community will be the site of a celebration on Aug. 15, filling the streets with live music, dining, and shopping.

Hosted by Low Tide Properties, the annual “Meet Me in Gastown” at Maple Tree Square will take place from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.

Ashely Tattle, tenant and community relations coordinator for Low Tide Properties, wrote the event is more than an evening of entertainment, but an opportunity to celebrate and bring the Gastown community together.

“We believe that celebration is key for all communities and that is really what we aim to do with Meet Me in Gastown, celebrate the community,” Tattle wrote in an email statement to The Runner

“Gastown is one of Vancouver’s most unique and historic neighbourhoods, it is really special to help create a reason for people to come down here and explore. We also think it is so special to engage with so many of the businesses and restaurants that work so hard in Gastown every day.”

This year, Low Tide Properties is working with 15 local Gastown restaurants to create a food festival, including The Local Public Eatery, Monarca, and The Greek Gastown.

“Attendees will be able to enjoy the music performances and explore Gastown while also visiting some of their favorite restaurants for bite-sized food options,” Tattle wrote.

Attendees can look forward to live performances by the bands Sutursonic and Marlin Ramazzini at the Maple Tree Stage, as well as music from the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra and Lions Gate Chorus from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. From 6:47 to 7:15 pm, the stage will feature a Vancouver Locking dance battle.

Other activities include trying out fencing and connecting with the team from Dynamo Fencing, and experiencing hair care and “healing rituals,” such as sound bowls, at the Flowstate Hair Design tent on Water Street, according to the event’s website.

After the performances and street food, guests are invited to Monarca’s afterparty or Guilt & Co.’s cocktail patio in the Carrall St. Alley. Those who want to keep the fun going past 8:00 pm can join the afterparty at Carrall St. Alley featuring DJ Farshad.

“I hope people are excited to continue to come back to Gastown,” Tattle wrote. “We would love for this to inspire more visits to Gastown and give people a chance to see the beauty in this part of the city.”
