There’s a new club at Kwantlen Polytechnic University — the KPU Dance Club — which promises to bring an exciting energy to campus life, offering students an outlet to take a break and connect with others through dance.

The Kwantlen Student Association recently approved the KPU Dance Club, which is open to dancers of all skill levels.

“I have always had a deep passion for dancing, as it has been a way for me to express myself and escape from the everyday stresses of life,” club leader Khushmandeep Kaur wrote in an email statement to The Runner

“When I arrived at KPU, I noticed that while there were many clubs and activities, there wasn’t a dance club. I realized there must be other students who felt the same way — missing that creative outlet — so I decided to take the initiative and start the KPU Dance Club.”

The club has a lineup of activities planned to engage students, including workshops to teach new techniques, dance competitions, face-offs, and social meet-and-greet events. The club aims to bring a new energy to campus by promoting creativity, cultural diversity, and a sense of community through dance, Kaur wrote.

The club will focus on Bollywood, hip hop, and semi-classical dance styles.

Kaur added the club is open to including more styles if they can find people to teach the different dances.

The club will be welcoming a diverse group of students and may be of interest to those who have taken dance, are interested in learning it, or want to take a break to “have fun and relieve stress,” Kaur wrote.

“Students can expect a fun, supportive environment where they can explore different dance styles, improve their skills, and connect with others who share the same passion.”

Kaur also wrote that she is excited to bring students with a shared love and interest for dance together, creating an opportunity for them to learn and grow.

“Dance is important because it’s not just a physical activity but also a creative outlet that helps to connect with others, learn new skills, and take a break from our busy lives.”

Students interested in becoming part of the KPU Dance Club can email kpudanceclub@gmail.com or message the club’s Instagram account @kpu_danceclub. Once contacted, new members will be added to a WhatsApp group.
