Polly’s Technicolour Drag Show brought out the best of the KPU community
From dazzling outfits to energetic performances, the show was a display of talent, art, and love
On Nov. 8, six Kwantlen Polytechnic University students performed on stage at the school’s Surrey Conference Centre in a memorable show dedicated to drag, character, and art.
Polly’s Technicolour Drag Show was an impactful and meaningful event with a range of performances, which included enthusiastic and energetic dances and eye-catching outfits. It didn’t take long for the audience to embrace the show and its performers who lit up the stage with confidence.
The six students each put on a different performance. Whether it was dance, music, storytelling, or art, an immense amount of effort went into each act. It also pulled on people’s emotions, which I think captured the audience’s attention, and the shades of colour, movement, and ideas were inspiring.
On the stage, performers were dazzling with sequined clothes, beautiful fabrics, and excellent makeup. Each performer received a round of applause from the audience, who cheered them on throughout the show.
The conference centre transformed into a vibrant theatre and the energy in the room was electric. Each performer brought out the best in themselves — everyone had something to offer.
Drag is powerful in the sense that it provides people with an opportunity to explore other versions of themselves with boundless creativity and imagination.
The Technicolour Drag Show was a colourful glimpse into KPU’s diverse student population. The presence of students, faculty, and community members enriched this shared experience — a session of cheers, clapping, and laughter.
It was more than a show, it was a display of talent, art, understanding, acceptance, and self-love. Overall, Polly’s Technicolour Drag Show honoured the diverse threads that make up the KPU community and student body.
