We all need something to raise our spirits this time of year, especially with the gloomy weather. Listening to music can help everyone get through the cold, rain, fog, and darknesses this spring semester. Here are some of my favourite songs to listen to, which I hope will help you get through this season.
“Magnificent” by U2
This is an alternative rock song that is perfect to uplift your spirits. I usually listen to this song when I’m feeling nostalgic as I was first introduced to it when I was just a kid, so it reminds me of my childhood. U2 is also one of my favourite bands, so listening to this brings me even greater joy.
“Riptide” by Vance Joy
“Riptide” is an indie song that I find quite relaxing. It’s perfect for stressful homework sessions and rainy days. I would say this is one of my top songs. I listen to it almost everyday because it’s easy to sing along to. I find that singing along to music can really help when you need cheering up. I have always felt that the listening experience is best in the car, especially during long drives.
“I Will Wait” by Mumford & Sons
This Mumford & Sons song is another indie classic that I would describe as upbeat and hopeful, which is the perfect type of song to listen to when you need to tackle the bad weather. I recommend this song because I think listening to underrated artists like Mumford & Sons is more rewarding than mainstream artists. The songs you will find are more unique and meaningful.
“Dark Red” by Steve Lacy
This mellow R&B song is perfect to listen to if you’re feeling stressed and want to relax. This song perfectly matches the vibe of the cold weather, especially if it’s raining outside. I discovered this song not too long ago, and ever since then, it has been something I always recommend to people. No matter which genres you like, everyone can enjoy this song.
“Hymn for the Weekend” by Coldplay
This pop song is perfect to listen to when working out. Staying active, especially during the cold weather, can be challenging but is a great way to help you stay focused on school, work, or any other activities. I’ve started doing this, and “Hymn for the Weekend” has kept me motivated. Pop songs, in general, are great mood-lifters, whether it be because of the lyrics or the upbeat tempo.
These are just a handful of the many songs that can help reduce stress and increase your happiness during the gloomy weather season. Music can be life-changing if you find the right songs — it can make hard times easier and keep you motivated throughout the day.
I hope that you can find the time to spare a few minutes of your day and, if you haven’t already, listen to a couple of these song options to see if they resonate with you. All of these songs are available on Spotify, Apple Music, or wherever you get your music from.
