Aside from being a landmark feat, her 25-year service is a celebration of the number of lives she has touched and the lasting impression that she continues to leave.

Nagra sent the following responses in an email statement to The Runner.

When did you join the KPU community and why?

On August 30th, 1999, I was hired by KPU — a moment that marked the beginning of a journey driven by my passion for teaching. I never considered pursuing any other career, as education was where my heart truly belonged. At the time, I was working at Simon Fraser University when I came across the job posting. With optimism, I applied, and when I received the news of my hiring, my joy was immeasurable. It was the start of a fulfilling chapter, dedicated to shaping and guiding students toward success.

What’s your favourite story of your time at KPU?

Nominating an exceptional student, Gurkirat Singh Nijjar, for KPU’s 2022 Outstanding Young Alumni Award was an incredibly emotional experience. Seeing a truly deserving individual receive the award brought tears to my eyes. My heartfelt blessings extend to all my students — I am endlessly proud of each one of them.

What’s something you would like to say to people new to the KPU community?

To all newcomers — approach your work with honesty, integrity, and respect. Your job is not merely a task to complete — it should be a passion that comes from within. When you dedicate yourself wholeheartedly, the fulfillment and peace of mind you gain are immeasurable. Let your work reflect your commitment and sincerity.

What are you working on right now?

I remain deeply committed to my passion for teaching chemistry labs, guiding students as they prepare for the next stage of their journey. Helping them develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed is both fulfilling and meaningful, and I take great pride in being a part of their growth.

What’s something you would like people to know about you?

I take great joy in everything I do, especially in volunteering and supporting others with empathy and kindness. Being helpful is deeply fulfilling to me. I also find immense peace in the beauty of nature — whether it’s hiking through the wilderness, strolling under the trees, or simply being near water. These moments bring me a profound sense of tranquility and rejuvenate my mind.

Additionally, I love immersing myself in reading and engaging in mental games. Both stimulate my mind, and provide learning and growth.

Teaching is a profession where you share your knowledge, skills, and passion to shape the future of your students. It is more than just instruction — it is the art of inspiring curiosity, fostering critical thinking, and laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning. A great teacher imparts not only subject knowledge but also values, confidence, and the ability to navigate challenges. Through patience, dedication, and genuine care, educators empower students to grow, achieve their potential, and make meaningful contributions to the world.
