The Surrey Fusion Festival will return to the city’s Holland Park from July 19 to 20, spotlighting various cultures and their authentic foods.

The free event features dozens of cultural pavilions, where attendees can try different bites from countries including India, Jamaica, Canada, and Colombia while also learning about their cultures.

Now marking its 18th year, the theme of the 2025 festival is “Flavours from Around the World.”

The event will have more than 200 performers across eight stages, with the headliners being Miss Pooja and Easy Star All-Stars. The live acts will cover traditional, cultural, and contemporary performances.

“We have over 50 cultural pavilions, where people can try tasty, authentic foods from all around the world,” says Amy Kim, senior special events marketing specialist for the City of Surrey. “That means 50 different countries will be represented.”

The festival also has a beer garden and interactive, kid-friendly activities at a family zone. The event will also feature a Cultural Cooking Arena, where on day one, the youth of Surrey will compete in a cooking competition, while day two consists of cooking demonstrations from celebrity chefs.

Events like this are important because they show the “cultural richness and diversity of Surrey,” Kim says.

“They create opportunities for people to connect, learn from one another about each other’s cultures, and celebrate what makes everyone unique.”

There will also be an Indigenous village at the festival, which Kim says is a “space for Indigenous cultural sharing, reflecting, connecting, and learning about Indigenous culture through market vendors, performances, and more.”

With a recorded attendance of more than 110,000 in 2023, Surrey Fusion Festival has become Western Canada’s largest multicultural festival.

“That speaks to the connections we’re fostering within the community between different cultural groups, and we’ve seen an increased awareness of the many cultures that make up Surrey,” Kim says.

“We really hope visitors leave feeling more connected to their neighbours, more educated about the different cultures that are within Surrey, and just a greater appreciation about what makes Surrey so unique and vibrant. And obviously, we want everyone to taste the delicious food that each country has to offer.”
