The Kwantlen Student Association held an executive committee meeting on Sept. 11, where it approved $11,400 in club support funding and discussed upcoming events and initiatives for the fall semester.
In his report, Vice-President Student Life Ishant Goyal said the KSA has been working on giveaways for holidays in October. The student association is considering dry fruit boxes or gift boxes for Diwali and chocolates for Halloween.
“We are also in talks to plan a Diwali party off-campus and then a Halloween party, too,” Goyal said, adding that the student union is also planning a social event at the end of the month for the KSA membership.
“[It’s] in the planning phase, yet it seems to be decided it’s going to be somewhere close to the Langley campus, and [we’ll] probably do something for the [other] campuses, too.”
The event will be an opportunity for students to gather. It will feature a DJ, games, and food, Goyal said.
“My portfolio has pretty much been busy with Welcome Week and going around the campuses and meeting new students as well,” he added.
The three other present executive committee members including President Paramvir Singh, Vice-President External Affairs Harpal Singh, and Vice-President Finance and Operations Manmeet Kaur did not give a report.
Executive Director Timothii Ragavan and Associate President Shawinderdeep Singh did not attend the meeting nor send a report.
The executive committee then approved $10,000 for the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Cricket Club to attend the National Cricket Championship.
Goyal said the competition is in Toronto, with half of the funding going towards tickets and the rest covering accommodations, food, and other expenses.
“They’re going and representing KPU over there as students,” he said.
The executive committee approved $700 for the KPU Badminton Club to attend a tournament in Coquitlam. The committee also approved $400 for the KPU Dance Club to participate in an inter-university competition at the University of British Columbia.
The KPU Cricket Club also received $300 in funding to go towards refreshments for the British Columbia Mainland Cricket League tournament.
The KSA did not hold the council and executive meetings it scheduled for Sept. 3. The last council meeting the student union held was on Aug. 12.
The next KSA executive committee meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17 at 1:00 pm.
