My thoughts on who the next James Bond should be

The next Agent 007 needs to serve up confidence and charisma to continue the iconic fictional British spy’s legacy

It’s the end of an era. With Daniel Craig hanging up his tuxedo, everyone is wondering who will succeed him as the next James Bond.

The most famous spy in movie history, Bond is more than just a character. He is a legacy. Considering this, who can take on the role of Agent 007 with charm, courage, and, yes, charisma?

Casting rumours are already circulating with names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Tom Hardy. Hardy is a serious competitor because of his intensity and dangerous charm. He has the ominous presence that Bond has always possessed.

Taylor-Johnson, however, adds a new spark — slick but young, chic but enigmatic. He seems like a perfect fit for a more modern, graceful version of 007.

But the next Bond doesn’t have to be an already well known star. Casting a lesser-known actor occasionally allows the character more space to develop and surprise viewers. After all, before Craig became Bond, he wasn’t a global icon. Yet today, it’s difficult to picture anyone else in the role.

In my ideal world, Regé-Jean Page would be the next Bond. He may be familiar to you from Bridgerton, where he effortlessly upheld smouldering looks and style. Page possesses the sophistication, wit, and, above all, mystery that Bond requires. Like the titular British spy, he enters a room and takes control of it. He has a captivating presence that causes people to pause and gaze — not because he is noisy.

Also, Page is Black and biracial, which would be a welcome development for a franchise that has long needed some change in both Bond’s appearance and how he portrays the outside world.

A great Bond doesn’t need to be a muscle machine or a ladies’ man in the traditional sense. What’s most important is having confidence without being full of yourself, being clever with a touch of danger, and being comfortable in both tough situations and fancy events. Bond is a global figure who is respected and known everywhere, not just in the U.K.

But is it necessary for the next Bond actor to be from the U.K.? At the very least, yes. There’s something about a clear British accent and subtle charm that seems vital to the role. However, attitude — a cool, controlled, and collected demeanour that screams James Bond — is more important than nationality.

Other notable actors like Theo James and Idris Elba, who have each been around for a while in the industry, would be fantastic in the role, but it could be time to think of someone less well known. A famous actor isn’t needed to bring new life to the character. Prior to putting on the tuxedo, several of the most iconic Bonds were largely unknown, which allowed viewers to perceive them in Bond’s character when compared to roles they had previously portrayed.

By choosing a newcomer, the series can reinvent itself and surprise fans, allowing them to believe in a different 007 without the expectations that come with famous performers. The franchise may require this new beginning to remain captivating and exciting.

There are large shoes to fill and a decades-old tradition to uphold for whoever becomes the next Bond. He is more than simply a fictional character — he is a representation of style, power, and sophistication.

But things are evolving, and perhaps a new type of 007 is in order. One that adds a new, modern twist while maintaining the sophistication for which Bond is renowned. Someone who redefines what it means to wear a suit with confidence, sophistication, and a little twist — while still looking fantastic in one.

May the next Bond continue the good work, challenge our expectations, and, above all, never stop inspiring us.
