“Since I took over the position, I have not yet received any [emailed] reports,” Speaker of Council Amandeep Kaur Brar said during a council meeting on Jan. 5.
All executives, council members, committee chairs, and the executive director give reports during council meetings.
Often, councillors will say they will email their report.
“It takes some time for preparing them and collecting all the information to put into the reports, so I will email the reports,” Vice-President University Affairs Gurdit Singh wrote in the meeting’s Microsoft Teams chat.
Gurdit also chairs four committees: environmental sustainability, external affairs, finance and operations, and Grassroots redevelopment. The Runner has not received any reports as of publication.
“I will email my reports as VP [External] Affairs by next week. We are currently into the transition and learning the procedure,” Vice-President External Affairs Rohit Uppal wrote in the meeting chat. The Runner has not received a report as of publication.
Gurdit and Uppal were appointed to the executive committee at the last council meeting on Dec. 12.
Twenty-six reports should have been given at the Jan. 5 meeting, however, the only report was from Vice-President Student Life Ishant Goyal.
“I have been working mainly for student partnerships over the holidays. I’ve been reaching out to food vendors and to other partnerships like go-karting or such activities for students,” Goyal said.
Goyal added he has reached out to both local and big corporate companies for discounts or coupons for students.
“My time has mainly been working around these initiatives to [uplift] student life. Now, when the campus is back open, I’ll be working on initiatives on campus,” Goyal said.
Brar also told council Shawinderdeep Singh is no longer a member, as per an email she received that his term is over.
Shawinderdeep was the associate president on the executive committee and Civic Plaza campus representative on council.
At the time of the meeting, there were two vacancies on the executive committee — associate president and president, as former president Paramvir Singh’s term had also ended.
“If people’s terms have ended, someone needs to send me information about that so I can make the necessary filings with the registrar of societies,” Records Coordinator and Archivist John O’Brain wrote in the meeting chat.
The next KSA council meeting is scheduled for Jan. 21 at 1:00 pm. Interested students can email info@kusa.ca to join the meeting.
