Whether you are a hiking enthusiast or just someone who wants to do something fun with your friends in the summer, look no further than these hikes. While they may vary in difficulty and time, these are some stellar spots to visit.
Teapot Hill, Cultus Lake
Teapot Hill is one of my favourite hikes. It’s a little out of the way, but if you plan to do a lake day, I would stop by this trail before jumping in the lake to cool off.
The neat thing about this hike is that you do not need to be a pro. This hike is for everybody, and the elevation is manageable.
Once you get to the top, there is a stunning view of Cultus Lake waiting for you.
Also, the hike’s name comes from the teapots scattered throughout the trail. The teapots are a sweet addition, and make it stand out from other spots in Metro Vancouver.
Grouse Grind, North Vancouver
The Grouse Grind is not for the weak — I’ve done it, and it really takes your breath away.
The entire hike is an up-hill climb. Grouse Grind offers a gorgeous view of the city once you hit the three-quarters mark, but allow yourself some extra time to complete it.
This is not a hike to rush through. It’s hard, but the good news is that you don’t have to hike down the mountain — the gondola is there to help with that.
The view at the top is worth it, but please do not do this hike by yourself. A hiking buddy is crucial for moral support to push you up that mountain, literally.
Quarry Rock, Vancouver
Quarry Rock is likely the easiest hike on this list. It only has a 100-metre elevation gain, so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery around you without feeling out of breath.
Once you get to the top, there’s an amazing view of the water. As a bonus, you get to step onto a huge rock, put your hands in the air, and yell, “I did it!”
If you are looking for an easy hike for the whole family to enjoy this summer, look no further than Quarry Rock.
Abby Grind, Abbotsford
This hike is a mini version of the Grouse Grind, and it definitely will not take you as long to reach the top. If you want a taste of the Grouse Grind before committing to it, I would highly recommend this hike.
Once you do, expect the most gorgeous view of the Fraser Valley, which you should devote the time to really take in.
Be prepared to go down the mountain as well, since there is no gondola to get down.
No matter what kind of skill level you have, hiking is rewarding and a great way to switch up your daily routine. It’s not just a summer activity, but a year-round activity.
