From escape rooms to sports simulators, a new amusement centre in North Delta offers a range of interactive activities.

CipherX expanded beyond Coquitlam this summer by opening up another location less than a 10-minute drive from Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Surrey campus.

The centre is aimed at addressing a lack of things to do in the radius it surrounds, says Brian Rai, manager of CipherX Delta.

“One thing we were really thinking about focusing on was trying to build something in our community locally where people don’t have to travel outside,” Rai says. “A lot of people I know personally — and even myself — we tend to go to cities like Vancouver, Richmond, and Burnaby to do some activities like this.”

CipherX Delta has themed escape rooms, free-roam virtual reality (VR), and an X-Grid, which is a game floor made up of glowing tiles for players to step on and dodge. While the colour green indicates a safe zone and red means danger, the blue tiles are for collecting before the red ones catch players.

“It’s like a nice little workout,” Rai says. “You can have fun with your friends and family. You jump around, just enjoy some quality time together.”

The centre is also equipped with multi-sport and golf simulators.

“You can play any golf course around the world … in a climate-controlled environment,” Rai adds.

This month, CipherX Delta launched weekday promotions, which feature “Student Wednesdays” for high-school and university students to enjoy 20 per cent off on escape rooms, VR, and the X-Grid by presenting their student IDs.

The other promotions include “Mystery Mondays,” which allow visitors to book an escape room and receive 20 per cent off on the centre’s VR and X-Grid, and “Tee-Off Tuesdays” for one hour of golf for $50 and $25 for the second hour.

On “Date Night Thursdays,” two can access VR, the X-Grid, or a combination of both for one hour for $60, while “Happy Hour Fridays” mean visitors can get 15 per cent off on VR plus the X-Grid from noon to 3:00 pm.

Rai says the centre is a great place for connecting with loved ones.

“Everybody’s busy in their own lives. Sometimes you don’t get to see friends for two, three weeks or you don’t get to see your family members for some time because everybody has different schedules. So I think we’re just trying to be the glimmer of hope in bringing a lot of people together.”

CipherX Delta is at 7949 120 St., which is in the same plaza as the Cactus Club cafe’s Scott Road location.
