Kwantlen Polytechnic University International will be hosting its first-ever Halloween costume contest on Oct. 29 from noon to 2:00 pm at the Surrey Cedar Conference Centre.

The event promises a fun-filled atmosphere, complete with prizes, free food, and several activities designed to foster community spirit and creativity amongst students.

Registration for the event opened on Oct. 8, and attendees are required to pay a $5 fee to participate. The fee provides access to an array of features, including prizes, a photobooth, a caricature artist, pumpkin carving, and spooky snacks and refreshments.

“KPU International is committed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive campus community for all students,” Indra Manhas, director of global engagement at KPU International, wrote in an email statement to The Runner.

“We aim to celebrate cultural diversity while building connections among students, encouraging them to interact and make lasting memories during this enjoyable event. Ultimately, it’s about creating a sense of belonging and enhancing the overall student experience at KPU.”

The event also aims to give students a platform to showcase their creativity and share their cultural perspectives on Halloween.

“This event promotes engagement, camaraderie, and cultural exchange,” Manhas wrote. “For students, particularly those new to Canada, participating in activities like the Halloween Costume Contest helps them feel more connected to campus life and fosters friendships.”

For the contest, there will be prizes for those with the best costume. They can also enjoy various Halloween-themed games.

This year’s Halloween costume contest ushers in a new era for KPU International, marking a new addition to its lineup of events.

“If it’s successful, it may become an annual event that everyone looks forward to,” Manhas wrote.

KPU International hopes that attendees will leave with a sense of community and joy.

“It’s a chance for them to express their creativity through their costumes, meet new friends, and enjoy a fun, relaxed atmosphere. We want everyone to feel like they’re part of something special,” Manhas wrote.

While participation in the costume contest is optional, Manhas wrote students, staff, and faculty are welcome to take part in it, enjoy the festivities, and cheer on their friends.

“It’s going to be a fantastic time, and the more, the merrier! This event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate creativity, strengthen our community, and create lasting memories together,” she wrote.
