The Kwantlen Eagles’ men’s basketball team suffered their ninth consecutive loss after matching up against the Quest University Kermodes on Feb. 5.
The Eagles managed to keep the Kermodes within touching distance for 40 minutes, but fell short 86-75 at home.
The men are now 1-13, and are tied at the bottom of the BCCAA men’s basketball league with the Columbia Bible College Bearcats.
The Eagles started the game with a high tempo and were much stronger than the visitors, but when the game settled down, Quest took the lead and didn’t let it slip.
The men looked really timid in the first half. They were not using their height and size advantage over the Kermodes, and Quest guard Bryce Froberg exploited that.
Froberg scored 16 points in the opening 20 minutes, four points less than Kwantlen’s top three scorers combined.
The most notable statistic at the break was that Quest’s inside shooting was 10 per cent better than Kwantlen’s.
After the break, the game speed quickly picked up.
Kwantlen managed to score 26 points in the third frame, but also let Quest score 29.
If anything was stopping the Eagles from picking up their second win of the season, it was their inability to stop the Kermodes’ offense.
But the Eagles did play an inspired second half, with Ali Bosir leading with 20 points and 11 rebounds in the final two quarters.
According to head coach Bernie Love, Kwantlen’s loss on Feb. 4 was the first time Quest won a game in the Surrey gym. They went back to Squamish with four points in their pockets.
