Winter is a great time, with its magical snowy days, fun cold-weather activities, and cozy drinks. After December, however, the cold can start to feel like a drag, and if you are looking forward to longer and sunnier days, you are not alone.

Spring is the time for renewal and fresh flowers, great memories, and brighter days. With the pandemic, it can feel like activities are limited, especially in the colder months. However, in the spring, the great outdoors is your friend.

Plan a picnic

Gather with a friend, family member, or yourself and find a cute park to have lunch. Relax in the fresh, sunny afternoon with a homemade meal or takeout from a local sushi restaurant or café. Grab a coffee and sweet treat, unroll a blanket under the shade of a large tree and enjoy the company and the environment.

You could get some schoolwork done, relax, read a book, or listen to music.

Spend a day at the beach

White Rock or Crescent Beach are the two popular beaches near the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Surrey campus, but there are many smaller ones scattered throughout the Lower Mainland. Get some ice cream or lunch at one of the local restaurants and sit by the rocks to watch the waves on the beach.

Beaches are extraordinary places to spend time during the spring. It is not too hot or crowded like in the summer months, and not too rainy and chilly like winter. And if the weather is warm enough, taking a dip in the sea can be very refreshing.

Wander through some nursery gardens

Nursery gardens are pieces of land crafted to raise and sell a variety of trees, plants, flowers, and gardening supplies. There are many nurseries throughout the Metro Vancouver area, and springtime is the best time to visit them.

Even if you don’t end up buying anything or can’t keep a plant alive for more than a week, nurseries are still an awesome activity. It provides an opportunity to relish in sweet scents and learn about more exotic plants and flowers.

Go for a hike or a bike ride

Whether you have a bike or want to rent one, or you prefer walking, spring is the best time to hit those hiking or biking trails. Get a great session of cardio while enjoying one of the many trails British Columbia has to offer.

B.C. has some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery. With the bright greenery to snow-capped mountains, the paths woven through this province’s rainforest are at their prime in the spring.

Each season has its own uniqueness and brings the possibility for so many fun adventures. However, spring brings about a renewed energy and life we all need after a gloomy and rather dark winter season.
