Now that the fall semester has begun, studying has commenced. Essays are being written, quizzes, tests, and exams are being scheduled. Studying is at the forefront of every student’s mind.

This is a list of five songs to add to your studying playlist to help you feel more prepared and relaxed, with a combination of upbeat, fast and mellow songs for anyone’s studying vibes.

“24K Magic” – Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars had to go on the list. While his songs are upbeat and have the appropriate dance vibes, studying requires a certain type of energy — which Bruno Mars gives in every song. “24K Magic” is one of those songs that everyone has heard of and can be put on in the background to pump you up before diving into your cue cards, close readings, or creative writing pieces.

“Matilda” – Harry Styles

From one vibe to the next, Harry Styles wrote “Matilda,” and not because of all the drama going on with his new movie, Don’t Worry Darling. Regardless, Styles’ recent music has a soft and gentle feeling, one that is both relaxing and tells a story. “Matilda” is one of those songs. Whether you choose to listen once for enjoyment or repeat it so you can let Styles serenade you while an essay glares at you through the screen, this is the song for your playlist.

“Dance To This” – Troye Sivan ft. Ariana Grande

Every hit after Bruno Mars seems to be more chill, and this song is no different. While a bit older, it’s laid back and such a bop. It’s a combination of something you might use as a break from reading a textbook to having a little dance in between pages. Alternatively, it can help focus on the task at hand. Also, it features Ariana Grande — what more could you ask for?

“Doppelganger” – Joshua Bassett

I love Joshua Bassett. His style, his personality, and the way he carries himself. The new songs he’s been releasing recently have made him a top contender of artists. I had a hard time narrowing down which one of his songs would work best as a studying song, but “Doppelganger” is it. While relatable, the instruments in addition to the beautiful vocals craft together a song that truly gives chills. It brings a nostalgic type of peace that is perfect to put on while studying.

“Breathe” – Little Mix

Upbeat but mellow, this lyrical pop piece gives the aura of being underwater with a synth type of beat. The all-girl band Little Mix shares a lot of bops across the pop genre, and a lot of them are great for various activities like working out, cooking, or simply jamming out to some favourite hits. “Breathe,” in particular, fits the bill for studying. It’s not overbearing for those who prefer a mellow song, but it stands out against the more hype songs of Harry Styles, Troye Sivan, and Joshua Bassett.

There are many songs that work well for studying, these are just a few songs that make a great starting playlist. If we are being honest, we need all the help we can get.
