Is it possible to be on a KPU campus and survive in a horror movie?

There’s only one clear choice between Surrey, Richmond, Langley, Cloverdale Tech, and Civic Plaza

As we settle into October, more people are putting out Halloween-themed decorations and planning fun events for the rest of the year.

One way some enjoy the spooky season is by watching horror movies. Ranging from classics like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street to modern movies like Final Destination and Saw, there’s a ton of horror and Halloween movies to indulge in.

Around this time of year, I’m sure people have asked themselves at least once how they would survive in a horror movie.

I’ve asked myself that question at least a few times each month, including which Kwantlen Polytechnic University campus gives the best chance of survival in a horror movie. This is especially relevant since getting to classes this semester and travelling around campus can sometimes feel like a horror movie itself.

With all that being said, from the many years I’ve been at KPU, the Surrey campus would give myself and anyone else the best chance to survive.

I want to make note that I haven’t been to the Cloverdale Tech or the Civic Plaza campus yet, so I can’t comment on their survivability. But all I can say is having one building as a campus is an issue for me.

I’ve only been to the Langley campus once, but I did get lost the few times I was there.

If I were to evaluate each campus’ surrounding environment, there’s not much going for Langley since it’s a bit remote from nearby resources. This is gravely problematic since the still-empty cafeteria space doesn’t possess any food, which you’ll need to survive in a horror movie.

While I’ve been to the Richmond campus more often than Langley, there’s only a little bit more going for this one. Having two buildings with many floors within each is helpful to run and hide in a horror movie, but I’ve had trouble finding the stairs at the Wilson School of Design and used an elevator instead.

Being trapped in an elevator if it ever breaks down is one of the worst experiences someone can have in general, let alone in a horror movie. Therefore, the Richmond campus might as well be just one and a half buildings to work with.

This leaves the Surrey campus. With multiple buildings to traverse around when being chased and easy access to all floors via stairs and elevators, Surrey is KPU’s largest campus and has the most space to move around, all of which are strong benefits. The campus having the most places to find food is also essential when trying to survive in a horror movie as the Surrey location has the Tim Hortons and the Grassroots Cafe. Now get to planning more details in case it ever happens in real life.
