The most wonderful time of the year has arrived when you see the first glimpse of snow gracefully falling down and leaving everything white outside.

Every time I see snow, I feel at my happiest and get enthusiastic about the rest of the day. There aren’t many other experiences in life similar to seeing the outside world blanketed in a graceful shade of white. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but there’s something both calming and exciting about the sight of snow for me.

Snow helps provide a unique aesthetic for any event happening during the wintertime, especially if it’s held outside. The snow helps make a setting elegant and energizing to go through. Although I can’t remember seeing any events during the snowy weather, I hope to be able to attend a fun event like a festival during that time just for the experience.

Something I’ve learned over time about snow is what it does for the environment. In simple words, it helps regulate the Earth’s temperature and provides water for rivers and reservoirs around the world.

This seems like a coincidence, but a lot of my interests and memories throughout my life have been connected with the chilly winter season, especially the snow. I still remember going outside in the snow to sled and build snowmen when I was younger, especially when my school ended up calling a snow day and let children enjoy the fun weather.

Even now, I sometimes like to hang outside in the snow for a bit when it falls, just to take in the ambiance. As I get older and life tends to get chaotic at times, just being able to enjoy looking around and walking through the falling snow reminds me to slow down a bit and enjoy the moment.

My enjoyment of hockey and the snowy weather helps enhance each other to associate positive thoughts for me. I still remember going into the middle of the road in my neighbourhood, stickhandling a ball or puck and shooting towards a pole or fence while surrounded by snow. In recent years, seeing the Winter Classic game the NHL hosts’ almost every season around New Year’s Day also helps enhance positive thoughts for the chilly season.

Over the past year, I’ve found more connections to the snow and the winter season, and continue to have fun and enjoyable associations with them.

It’s been almost a year since I got into playing Pokémon competitively and one of my favourite strategies in E-sports involves snow. In the current generation of games, the snowy weather helped make ice type Pokémon physically stronger defensively instead of doing small damage every turn. The change has finally given me a chance to try using ice type Pokémon on teams, eventually turning ice into one of my favourite types.

Even when watching anime, I’ve had connections to snow associated with the hobby. One of my favourite characters in anime and manga, Akane Kurokawa from Oshi no Ko, received a new visual and was a part of a small Christmas-themed video with a background of snow falling around her, which made my entire Christmas.

Overall, I’ve had so many fond memories and experiences with snow from both my childhood and recent years. I have nothing but positive thoughts for the fun weather.
