Is Tim Hortons’ flatbread pizza worth it?
Canada’s favourite coffee chain releases yet another seemingly out-of-place food option
When Canadians think of Tim Hortons, the foods that usually come to mind are donuts, Iced Capps, a sandwich, or warm soup. In recent years, Tim Hortons has expanded its menus by adding wraps, rice bowls, salads among other items.
The chain’s latest offering is the flatbread pizza. People can choose from four options — “Simply Cheese,” pepperoni, “Chicken Parmesan,” and “Bacon Everything.” Tim Hortons has said it wants more customers to come in during the latter parts of the day, however people’s reception to the new menu item, especially those who are regular customers, has been polarizing.
As someone who may consume Tim Hortons Ice Capps almost every day, I was intrigued by the new food item. Being a big pizza fan myself, even I wasn’t too sure about Tim Hortons serving pizza, mainly because I would opt to go to more established pizza places like Pizza Hut or Hellcrust Pizza. I also don’t try many of Tim Hortons’ food options aside from a few pastries and the occasional sandwich.
However, I decided to give the pizza a try. I ordered it in-person on one of the busier days at the Tim Hortons I went to and waited about 5 to 10 minutes for the pizza. I tried the pepperoni option since it’s a common pizza topping to order, and I wanted to have something easily available at other pizza places to compare it to.
When I opened up the box, the flatbread pizza was quite warm. I immediately noticed that the pizza had more flatbread than I expected. By that, I mean the toppings didn’t cover as much of the bread as I would’ve liked. On two of the six slices, it was mostly flatbread with a bit of toppings. I also had some difficulty trying to grab a slice since it seemed like the cuts weren’t deep enough throughout the pizza.
However, I did get the pizza during a busy time and the item is brand new to the menu. So while the pizza could’ve been made better, I don’t know how much of the fault can be placed on Tim Hortons for this. Otherwise, the pizza was surprisingly solid, especially for something that cost $7.99. It was tasty and the flatbread itself was well-cooked.
While I would still recommend just getting pizza from an actual pizza retailer, Tim Hortons’ flatbread pizza is decent enough for what it is. If you need a big snack, this is a good option, just hope you’re not in too much of a rush since it could take a while to come out.
The flatbread pizza is worth a try — the worth just depends on the person. As for myself, I’m not sure how often I’d order the flatbread pizza in the future, but I’d at least consider trying out the other toppings.
