As colourful flowers blossom and the sun sets later each day, many people are looking forward to the warm weather and spring season. This can be especially true for students attending Kwantlen Polytechnic University, who are either looking to relax after another eventful spring semester or find some balance while doing classes during the summer semester.

Regardless of what your plans might be, here are some activities to help you enjoy the last stretch of the spring season.

Go for a walk in the park

As the weather is neither too cold nor too hot at the moment, there’s no better time of the year to stroll through a local park. Stretching your legs while enjoying a light breeze and seeing scenic nature can help provide some comfort to those looking to take a break.

If you live near KPU’s Surrey campus, Cougar Creek Park is only a short walk away to take such a stroll. At the Richmond campus, there are plenty of parks for people to check out such as the Aberdeen Neighbourhood Park. For those around the Langley campus, Rotary Centennial Park is one of many within walking distance.

Whether it’s to help get through homework and projects or get away from the stress of classes, it’s never a bad idea to go for a walk. Well, at least until the rainy weather comes by, unless you’re into being outside in the rain.

Have a picnic

While this could be an extra activity to do at a park, having a picnic is great while you’re out and about. Whether it’s something as simple as putting a blanket on the grass or bringing a barbeque grill to cook up some food, taking in the atmosphere while eating something delicious and playing outside is always a fun experience.

This doesn’t have to be a park excursion as some malls and community centres have outdoor tables and benches resembling picnic spots. With a table, artificial grass, and umbrellas around, it’s like being in a park without being in one. You could even grab some food from a food court or café nearby to create a quick spring picnic experience if your free time is minimal.

Go to Playland

Metro Vancouver’s largest amusement park, Playland, recently opened, and is a great spring activity for students to check out. The park, located on Hastings Street in Vancouver, is open everyday in June between 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Hours will extend during the summer months. Ticket prices start at $33.

Ranging from more famous rides like the “Wooden Roller Coaster” and “Break Dance” to a new ride called “Thunder Volt,” there are plenty of options for event goers to choose from. There’s even some special events happening at Playland, such as “The Playland Eras Night” on June 15, which will feature Taylor Swift tunes for any interested “Swifties.”

Although it’s arguably more of a summer activity, it’s never too early to get a head start on some fun experiences and make new memories at Playland.
