Discontinued fast food items I miss
From KFC’s Double Down chicken sandwich to Wendy’s old fries, fast food items come and go as they please
When people get fast food from franchises like McDonald’s, Chipotle, or Subway, they get food because it’s, well, fast to get.
However, some food items go off the menu as fast as they get on it. Some examples include McDonald’s trying to sell pizza — something I wasn’t aware of until recently. I’m guessing it didn’t seem like something the franchise would offer regularly or find reason enough to keep around.
While not every discontinued fast food item is missed by everyone, here’s a list of the few items I miss getting.
KFC’s Double Down chicken sandwich
While only offered for a limited time, this KFC sandwich packed a whole lot of substance in it.
This was not the type of chicken sandwich the average person would think of — there is breaded chicken, but instead of being held together by buns, the chicken is what holds the burger together. The rest of the ingredients included a few slices of bacon, cheese, and some sauce.
If this sounds like a sandwich that could be too heavy for you, it probably is. Even though it was just two pieces of chicken with bacon and a slice of cheese, it felt like eating three meals in one go. And as someone who likes eating meat, even I would only get this once a month.
While it does come back every once in a while, most recently in 2021, it’s something I don’t expect to be a regular menu item.
Wendy’s previous fries
I know this sounds odd to talk about but hear me out. Before Wendy’s made some changes to their fries, they used to feel good to eat. From what I can remember, those fries had a near-perfect mix of being crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
They’re up on the list with McDonald’s fries for being among the best I’ve ever had, and there’s been a lot of positive thoughts about McDonald’s fries from what I’ve seen.
However, in 2021, Wendy’s announced changes on how their fries are made and, at least for me, they don’t taste as good. Don’t get me wrong, the fries now are still good, but they were a lot better before. It’s like how the competitive scene for Pokémon video games were better before the changes for the upcoming season.
A&W Bone-in Chubby Chicken burger
Nowadays, A&W sells Chubby Chicken as either strips or as the meat of the appropriately named Chubby Chicken burger.
However, like a lot of other places selling fried chicken, there was a time when A&W had Chubby Chicken with bones. It’s been a while since I’ve had this fast food item, but it was quite enjoyable from what I can remember. However, a few years ago, the option to have Chubby Chicken thighs, wings, and drumsticks were discontinued.
While I know there’s plenty of places to get fried chicken, including KFC, it never hurts to have more options to order fried chicken.
