Battling Taylor Swift FOMO: How to join in on Eras Tour festivities without tickets

From streaming her films to throwing themed parties, here's how to celebrate Swift's arrival to the city

The imminent arrival of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour to Vancouver is fast approaching.

From Dec. 6 to 8 at BC Place stadium, the city will witness the culmination of the American singer’s highly acclaimed and successful tour, which has grossed more than $1 billion, Pollstar, a trade magazine for the concert and live-music industry, reported.

Thousands of Canadian fans bought tickets a year ago to see their favourite artist. Unfortunately, tickets sold out almost immediately, robbing many of the opportunity to watch Swift live.

Concerts are a unique, special experience, and the sad reality is that many folks in the Lower Mainland who dreamed of watching her perform won’t get the opportunity, which can lead to the indelible case of FOMO — the fear of missing out.

If you are among the folks who are sans tickets but still want to experience the Swiftmania, here are five things you can do to avoid FOMO the days the superstar will be in town.

Go on a concert-streaming marathon

Disney+ has the original concert available on its platform, so get together with your friends, gather some snacks, and organize a night of dancing and singing along to The Eras Tour’s songs from the comfort of your home. The beauty of this is that you don’t have to worry about anyone judging you for screaming at the top of your lungs or for wearing pajamas.

The streaming platform also offers an intimate concert experience with Swift’s 2020 documentary folklore: the long pond studio sessions, which features the singer performing each track off her best-selling folklore album.

If you want a break from the singing, Netflix is also the home of Swift’s 2020 Miss Americana documentary.

Swiftie-themed Vancouver parties

Different establishments around the city will host listening and dance parties for fans of the singer.

On Dec. 7 from noon to 5:00 pm, the Yaletown Business Improvement Association will host Taylor Town, a free holiday celebration with a Swiftie twist. There will be Swift-themed installations at Helmcken Plaza. Nearby businesses and vendors will also be selling Swift-themed items. For more information, visit www.bit.ly/3AUGFf9

On Dec. 8 at 9:00 pm, the Vancouver Swifties group will host its “THE END OF AN ERA – Taylor Swift Club Night” at Levels Nightclub to celebrate Swift’s final Vancouver tour stop.

The event will feature The Eras Tour concert setlist, plus extra favourites that didn’t make the cut, including some Speak Now bops. Tickets are going fast and can be purchased via Eventbrite.

Live broadcasts of the concert on social media

Many Swifties who attend The Eras Tour concerts broadcast it live on TikTok. Tess Dear is an influencer and Swiftie who provides good-quality live streams of The Eras Tour on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Just make sure to have good internet access!

You can also type “Eras Tour” on TikTok the days the singer will be performing in Vancouver to find more live choices.

Host an Eras-themed party

If celebrating with friends in a less crowded setting than BC Place is more your thing, an Eras-themed costume party can be a great option. You can have your guests dress up as their favourite era, donning outfits in burning red to glittery midnight suits.

If you’re feeling extra keen, you can even make a catwalk to show off the costumes, which, of course, would be accompanied by Swift’s concert setlist or some live karaoke to your favourite songs.

Attendees can demonstrate their vocal chops for 10 minutes by singing “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault),” proving to everyone how much of a hardcore Swiftie they are. Without a doubt, it will fill the void from missing the concert.

Listen to the concert outside BC Place

If you’re brave enough to endure the chilly December weather, head outside the stadium to shout along to the songs with other Swifties. Make sure you dress warm and are ready to share this incredible moment.

While nothing can truly replace the experience of attending a Swift concert, these alternatives can offer Swifties the chance to connect with the music and community.

Whether you’re streaming, partying, or simply gathering with fellow fans, the magic of the pop star’s music will undoubtedly fill the air.
