Bluesky is infinitely better than X
This new competitor for a long-standing social media platform brightens up dark times

As X heads down a dark path, a blue sky has appeared.
No, literally, Bluesky is the name of a new social media platform that replicates the features of X in a fresh environment.
As someone who’s been known as a chronically online person for years, I’ve seen a lot happen on X. Some may say I’ve seen too much, but that’s not the point. The point is that X has gone through plenty of phases since a particular billionaire (cough, cough, it’s Elon Musk) took over and has been trying to be like Kingpin from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
X is now a place where people can get a blue-verified checkmark on their profile if they’re famous enough or if they pay a subscription each month. If you pay just to get the verified checkmark, I will laugh in your face because no one should be paying a subscription for that.
I still remember when X users found out about the limit on how many tweets they can see online, so they started sharing their other social media handles. Like with other social media platforms lately, there’s also an increase in usage of generative artificial intelligence.
I haven’t even mentioned the time users in Brazil got banned from using X as a result of a political disinformation campaign and feud between Musk and a Brazilian supreme court judge.
While I can’t say Bluesky can replace what X provided since the rise of social media, I’ve enjoyed using the platform so far. Anyone can sign up and take a username, assuming it’s not taken by someone else because you’re possibly famous, which thankfully I’m not.
I’ve seen other people say this — and I’ve had the same thoughts — but Bluesky feels like 2010s social media all over again.
If there’s any issue with Bluesky, it’s the fact that not everyone is willing to jump onto the social media platform considering how unstable new platforms can be — even if it means staying on the current version of X, which seems like it can and will implode any second.
I’m still trying to convince all of my friends who either play competitive Pokémon or watch anime to try out the platform, but it’ll probably be a while longer. Most of them have made accounts, so I’m off to a good start on that at least. Meanwhile, I’m still on X, but that’s just because not everyone is ready to make the jump to Bluesky.
However, if — or when, honestly — X collapses because Musk likes to jump like a toddler for attention, at least there’s a Bluesky to look up to.
