The latest Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 aims to provide an exciting game library for the start of the company’s newest console.

For those able to get their hands on the device, there’s plenty to look forward to this year.

With Mario Kart World kicking off with the Direct, viewers got to witness the next installment of Mario’s arguably most famous spin-off franchise. It’s fun until you’re about to finish in first place and get hit by a blue shell only to somehow fall off-course. Surely, this has happened to more people than just me — hopefully.

From a first glance, Mario Kart continues to look bigger and better, literally with 24-player races now available.

Alongside that, action can now go off-road with the free roaming feature. I’m not sure how often I’d use it, but it will be interesting to see how people respond to its inclusion.

I will say though, considering how connected all the tracks are with what was shown, I wonder if there will be no downloadable content for Mario Kart World, especially in contrast to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with its four waves of downloadable content. It might look clunky and awkward to add more content to something seeming so tied together already.

Something I definitely didn’t see coming is The Duskbloods made by FromSoftware. As a side note, to those wondering, yes, the studio is actually called FromSoftware.

For those who don’t know, they’ve made games that challenge the sanity of gamers such as the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne. Seeing the studio make something exclusive to Nintendo definitely has my attention. I’m not sure if I’ll get the game myself, but I do look forward to seeing how it is received by gamers.

Another game I’ve been looking forward to for so long is Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

I’m a big fan of the Metroid franchise, with Metroid Prime being one of the games that introduced me to gaming. After Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Metroid: Other M, I wasn’t sure if there would be any more games for the series. At least until late 2021, when Metroid Dread came out, which I got alongside my first Nintendo Switch.

I haven’t played it in a while, but it felt good getting back into one of the franchises that got me into gaming in the first place. With Metroid Prime 4 no longer a running gag, I am looking forward to getting the game as soon as I can.

Another nice announcement for the Nintendo Direct is there’s going to be separate versions for both the original Switch and the new Switch 2. Considering how popular the first switch system still is, it’s nice to see it get some support.

If Nintendo can do more right than wrong by consumers, I can see the Switch 2 matching the success of its predecessor, if not surpassing it.
