When is the real pumpkin spice season?
As coffee places roll out their pumpkin spice menu, I question when to move on to embrace fall in all its glory

The sun is staying around less as the year continues onwards and unfolds into the fall season. Coffee giants like Tim Hortons and Starbucks have rolled out their pumpkin spice food items.
In case anyone hasn’t caught on, the world has moved on from summer. As long as I’ve been alive, I’ve always considered it a weird and chaotic time — mainly because there are so many changes during the season.
Whether it’s going back to school after a few months of summer vacation when I was younger or the brief rest period before a lineup of fall events from October to early January, September always gives me the vibe of “figuring everything out along the way.”
And just like at three other points during the year, the change of seasons is also a little weird. I don’t necessarily mean the times changing during daylight savings, as that’s when it seems like people agree to go with the flow.
Most coffee shops have now rolled out their pumpkin-flavoured food and beverage items. To anyone who’s known me long enough, of course I would know about this considering how often I consume Iced Capps.
Questionable Iced Capp consumption aside, it seems like most people are never too sure when to move on from summer and start accepting it’s fall. Well, it’s also known as the autumn season for some, but if I could sidetrack a little, I’ve never figured out which term is the standard. I’m just going with fall since it sounds nicer and I could never click with autumn for some reason.
Going back to pumpkin spice, and this is probably just me, but fall feels more real to me when we move to October. I’m saying this as someone who hates summer and always looks forward to the fall and winter. Even when usual fall indicators like the leaves changing colours and colder temperatures become more common, I still see flashes of summer.
As I said before, it’s just a weird time of the year.
Some consider early September to be the start of fall, which might be the weirdest take I’ve heard about. Others consider the fall equinox to be the start of the fall season, which is usually around late September. Thanksgiving weekend might be a bit too late to consider it fall.
For me, though, early October is the time when the pumpkin spice food items start feeling right.
Maybe I’ll change my mind and welcome the fall season sooner someday. However, that day is likely not happening this year.
Alrighty, now that my pumpkin spice Iced Capp at Timmies is available, it’s time for me to rush to my next adventure.
