The worst Halloween costumes
Awful costume execution might be one of the scariest parts of the spooky holiday

Do you know what it’s like when something sends shivers down your spine? Well, that’s how I feel whenever I see costumes during the Halloween season.
Although my feelings on Halloween have admittedly gotten worse over time, something I’ll always enjoy seeing during this time of year is fun and creative costumes.
As someone who has gone to plenty of conventions in recent years, seeing people express their interests out and about through a costume always gives me some joy. Especially since Halloween is one of the few times most people get to wear various costumes, such as dressing up like a character.
However, some costumes are so bad that a workplace uniform might as well be more passable. I almost did exactly this on Halloween, since I wasn’t allowed to wear a costume at my workplace and didn’t want to take extra time to change.
Although the spooky season is over, I thought it’d be nice to take one more glimpse at Halloween before the holiday rush really kicks in.
With the horror of the Halloween season ending and another horror — Mariah Carey Christmas — defrosting and starting up again, here’s what I consider some of the worst costumes to wear during the late October days.
Costumes you can buy for cheap
I know costumes made on the cheaper side are going to be lower in quality — of course, I shouldn’t expect much. But considering I’m writing about bad costumes here, this technically fits the criteria, even if it’s a bit unfair to these kinds of costumes.
I will say, I can see how self-made costumes could also apply to this category. However, if you’re making your own costume, even if it doesn’t achieve what you have in mind, there’s at least some creativity — and definitely plenty of effort involved — in the costume.
I say this as someone who went as Delsin Rowe from InFAMOUS Second Son one Halloween night, and all I did was put a star on an altered jacket, wear a beanie, and have some chains on me.
I feel like buying a cheap costume gives off the vibes of not really getting into the Halloween spirit.
Group costumes inspired by different franchises
This type of costume is awkward for different reasons, and I’ll try to explain as best I can.
To all the manga lovers — imagine seeing Yor Forger from Spy x Family, Kento Nanami from Jujutsu Kaisen, and Katsuki Bakugo from My Hero Academia trying to be a ragtag family.
I admit, this is more of a gripe I’m getting off my chest, but it doesn’t sit right with me for some reason.
Revealing costumes, which are, sometimes, barely costumes
I don’t know how descriptive I can get with this to get the point across, but hopefully you’ll get the idea.
Some costumes are designed to show more skin, and I hope I don’t have to explain much further on why that’s a bad idea — unless you’re dressed as someone going to the beach or something similar.
