From makeup to the Louvre: These Jake Paul AI videos need to be stopped
Funny? Maybe. But does this justify the use of generative AI? Never
Controversial YouTuber Jake Paul has a good share of AI slop content of him circulating online. (Diego Minor Martínez)

If there’s anything in common between AI and Jake Paul, it’s having young people in a chokehold. Both worsen over time and somehow manage to damage society.
Unfortunately, the Paul-and-AI crossover has created some abominations that have made their way onto social media.
Jake Paul is a name that has been on the internet for the past decade. Paul has taken part in many projects over the course of his fame, but, I would argue, most aren’t good. From getting kicked off Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark for his behaviour in his late teens to questionable prank videos on YouTube, Paul has some sketchy history.
Paul is still getting into trouble even today. From sexual assault allegations to connections with controversial figures like U.S. President Donald Trump, it’s more trouble than it’s worth deciding who is the more problematic Paul brother: Jake or Logan.
For those living off the grid who missed what’s taken the internet by storm for weeks, people have created fake pictures and videos of Paul using generative AI.
While I haven’t seen too many (I want to distance myself from sloppy content as much as possible), it’s about what you’d expect.
In the most popular videos, Paul is applying makeup, showcasing his perfect foundation base to internet-users. In other clips, he skips away after stealing food from McDonald’s patrons.
Some have become more regional, like Paul showing up at Tamanawis Secondary School in Surrey. Paul partakes in actions you would expect the worst people in Surrey to do — which, to be honest, seems in line with what an actual person in Surrey would do.
I’ll admit, there are a few videos that got a chuckle out of me, but that’s probably because they depicted Paul doing something he’d do for content anyway.
However, as much as I don’t like Paul, and as terrible as he is, I don’t think even he should be done dirty like this by generative AI and those using it. It will be the start of a dangerous trend if more people began using generative AI like this. There’s been a lot of discourse on the topic, but it’s unethical and inhumane to do it — even if it’s your worst enemies.
Artificial intelligence has also been known to copy works from existing materials. From smaller artists doing commissions to get by to more well-known works, such as any Studio Ghibli project, nothing is off limits for generative AI.
And this is all to produce works with the shallowest of processes, on top of the harm AI causes to the planet. Generative AI consumes a lot of water to cool hardware — and this has a direct impact on the environment.
The worst people you know are likely using generative AI and they’ve already won if other people use it to respond back. Be better. Do whatever it takes. Stop the use of generative AI.
