Calling all crochet and coffee lovers!
The Knotty Brew Crochet Cafe, the first of its kind in Canada, opened its doors in November in Abbotsford, allowing crafters to sip and crochet at the same time.
Former teacher and owner of The Knotty Brew, Beatriz Davila — better known to customers as Bea — had the idea for the café when she rediscovered her passion for crocheting during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Knotty Brew is more than a café. It’s a creative community space,” Davila wrote in an email statement to The Runner.
“We wanted to build a place where people can slow down, connect, learn something new, and feel inspired. Coffee brings people together, but creativity keeps them here.”
The Knotty Brew became a hit after it officially launched on social media, gaining 11,000 Instagram followers in the span of two months. As of today, The Knotty Brew has more than 21,000 followers on Instagram and over 2,700 followers on TikTok.
The crochet café has garnered lots of positive feedback from the public since announcing its opening on social media, Davila told the Abbotsford News in November.
The café created a vendor program that allows local creators to display their handmade creations, with 100 per cent of the sales from their work going back to them.
The Knotty Brew also hosts hands-on crochet workshops led by expert crocheters, which are open to all levels, ranging from beginners to enthusiasts.
“Our vision has always been simple: coffee, connection, and creativity. We wanted to create a space where both seasoned makers and absolute beginners feel welcome,” Davila wrote.
The Knotty Brew is also looking to add sip ‘n’ stitch and movie nights to its future lineup of after-hour workshops, the Abbotsford News reported.
The seasonal drink menu at The Knotty Brew includes eggnog chai and gingerbread latte. The bestselling drink of the café’s opening week was the vanilla rose latte. Another favourite is the iced strawberry matcha. The site also offers a variety of cookies and other baked goods for customers to choose from.
The spot’s doors are open to all creatives, especially those who crochet or knit.
But regardless if you know your way around yarn and needles or not, Davila wrote “you just have to love good vibes and good coffee” to enjoy The Knotty Brew.
“We’re just getting started. Workshops, community events, movie nights. We want The Knotty Brew to continue growing as a space where people feel encouraged, creative, and connected.”
The Knotty Brew is located at 33723 Essendene Ave. in Abbotsford and is open Sunday through Friday.
