Abby’s Thyme Burger
Abby makes a good burger
By Abby Wiseman [Environmental Bureau Chief]
So I am personally a big fan of a good ol’ burger. I think sometimes you just have to have one, so when I’m not feeling lazy enough to go to Vera’s, I make my own.
I’m also a big fan of herbs and in this patty I use thyme. It’s the perfect time of year to buy some fresh herb plants, which are really nice (and cheap) to cook with.
When it comes to food like this, I don’t actually have proper measurements, and I don’t think you really need them. Just use the ingredients to your taste. If you like a lot of onion, use a lot of onion. If you like a lot of herb, than use a lot of herb. It’s your perogative!
If you’re not a beef-eater, sorry. Maybe I’ll find out how to make a veggie burger next… maybe. Anyways, fresh is best! Enjoy.
Here’s How you do it.
Thyme Burger
Lean ground beef
Finely chopped onion (about a half an onion per 500 grams of meat)
Fresh thyme leaves
Soy or worcestershire sauce (1-2 tbsp-ish)
1 egg white (It acts like glue)
About 2 tbsp bread crumbs (acts like cement)
Salt and pepper
Throw everything in a medium/large bowl.
Get your digits involved and mix it all up with your hands. It feels gross, but no need to worry, it will taste good.
Next, grab a palm full of the mixture and roll into a ball. Flatten the ball into a patty. Throw the patty onto your George Forman, bbq or good ol frying pan. Let cook about 4-5 minutes on each side. MAKE SURE THE MEAT IS NOT PINK IN THE MIDDLE! Nobody wants to deal with a sick person. It is just gross.
Serve on a whole wheat burger bun with all the fixings you like. Personally, I like mine with tomato, lettuce/spinach, red onion, ketchup, mustard and heavenly mayo. But, you can do whatever you want with yours.
Dessert… It’s pineapple season! Fresh fruit is the perfect dessert after a good burger. It’s also cheap, I got a big one for $2.99 yesterday. Soooooo good.
