How much time off should we get during the holiday season?
The end of holidays means getting back to the grind

The holidays signal a flurry of events and festivities.
Yet, the most notable part about the season for a lot of people is knowing they’ll have some time off, especially for those with chaotic lifestyles.
But now that the holidays are over, let’s think about how much time we should really have to rest and recover from work and other commitments.
On one end, just the actual days of the holidays are more than enough for some people. All they may need, for example, are a short workday on Christmas Eve and Christmas off.
Some others may wish to have more days leading up to and after the holidays away from school and work. It could even stretch to wanting weeks or a full month to chill out and enjoy life.
This fall semester, exams ran until Dec. 11, and classes for the spring semester resumed on Jan. 7.
Being able to have some more time off would be helpful for someone like me. I work in retail, which, for anyone who has worked in a store before, can often have quite a demanding workload.
I’m also an aspiring journalist, whether it be working with a news station or going the freelancer route, figuring out how much extra rest I need is helpful to factor in. And don’t get me started on classes, which, thankfully, I should be done with soon.
But that’s just what is on my plate. Everybody is different. It can be difficult to figure out how much time off is enough since we all have different schedules.
While I can’t speak for all workers, I believe another week — or at least five days — off during the holidays would be very appreciated. Having more time off would not only allow us to recover physically, but also mentally and emotionally, too, which I think are just as important.
Many would like to use their time off to not only get some rest, but take part in the fun festivities the month of December has to offer and get into the holiday spirit.
Having about a month’s worth of time off would be amazing, since it’s always felt like so much happens in the winter, but you can only experience so much of it properly.
On the flip side, when it comes to work in particular, it’s always nice to get paid for taking on shifts and staying sharp. I mean, I like money and do not like getting rusty on my work, even if some of it drives me insane sometimes!
Nevertheless, my final verdict on the holiday break debate is for us to have another week off.
