It’s been a few years since the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) has been inactive.

It’s like Christmas for video gamers. E3 featured countless video game projects for players to look forward to until its final event in 2021, hosted online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While E3 doesn’t seem to be returning any time soon, this summer has included a few video game presentations that have brought back some of the atmosphere the expo provided.

Earlier this month, there were three video game presentations: “State of Play” by Sony, “XBOX Games Showcase” by Microsoft, and “Nintendo Direct” by Nintendo.

Ever since the end of the E3 era, these studios have created video game showcases, alongside the annual Summer Games Fest.

As a video game follower since I was in high school, 2026 feels different from past years. This is the best year for gaming news I’ve seen in a long time.

Sony had my least favourite showcase this year. Despite its weak showing, there are still some fun video games to look forward to.

Most notably, Marvel’s Wolverine, which has been hyped for some time. They also showed off a few other interesting games that caught my attention, including Until Dawn 2 and God of War Laufey.

Summer Games Fest, which is usually known for having little to showcase from my experience, has made quite a splash. Starting off with the reveal of Resident Evil Veronica, the newest installment in the Resident Evil franchise.

The third and final part of the Final Fantasy VII remake, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, was also revealed and will be released later this year.

Up next was the XBOX Games Showcase. While Microsoft previously had less focus on their console the past few years, it didn’t feel that way this time.

Its showcase of Gears of War: E-Day, the newest installment for the famous exclusive franchise, this presentation was one for the ages.

Microsoft is also among the first to share news on the Persona franchise. They not only revealed the Persona 4 Revival’s release date as February 2027, but also that the long-anticipated Persona 6 is finally in the works by Atlus.

Last, but certainly not least, Nintendo got into the gaming spirit and released a direct to cap off a rush of video game presentations. Not to be outdone by the other presentations, but the much-anticipated Kingdom Hearts IV was revealed to be in the works.

There were also announcements from Nintendo about Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, Xenoblade Genesis and a remake of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

The next year looks to be an awesome and exciting time to be a gamer.
