New Eagle’s Coach Wastes No Time Recruiting

By Michela Fiorido [Sports Bureau Chief]

Just weeks after being named head coach of the Kwantlen Eagle’s women’s basketball team, Matthew McKay has already signed six new players. Matthew McKay replaces Gary Pawluk who has had two under .500 seasons in a row, despite securing a playoff berth this season.

Mckay is no stranger to the Eagles program, as he was the assistant coach of the women’s team two years ago. With the threat of only having four returning players next year, the new Eagles coach has been busy signing new pieces to the Eagle’s puzzle.
Two players from Holy Cross, Amy Beauchamp and Bianca Palitti will join the team next year. Beauchamp, a 6’1 forward, has played in the BCCAA before, but with the Douglas Royals.

He also signed two Brookswood Bobcats, guard Erin Mufford and point guard Courtney Parker. Other signings include guard Oxana Senyuk from Moscrop Secondary in Burnaby, and guard Mel Poce of Calgary.

This is undoubtedly a rebuilding year for the Eagles who will be extremely young but appear to have the right tools to achieve success in the British Columbia Colleges Athletic Association League.
