Kwantlen’s men’s basketball head coach Bernie Love has announced that he will not be in charge of the team after this season.

Love has spent nine years as the head coach of the Eagles, and says that his resignation has nothing to do with the team’s 1-11 record.

According to a Kwantlen news release, Love said, “This is solely a positive life decision and one that I am really excited about and looking forward to. It was by no means easy but one that I am at ease and completely comfortable with.”

“Kwantlen always has and always will hold a special place in my heart. Although I wasn’t able to accomplish what I wanted on the court, the friendships I have made on and off the court and the relationships that I have garnered with all my players, present and past, will be with me for the rest of my life. I haven’t retired from coaching but I will be taking some time away,” he added.

The Eagles have started looking for a new coach. A likely candidate would be assistant coach Mike McKay, who has spent two years by Love’s side.
