The Kwanlten women’s basketball team fell to 2-11 in regular season play after taking another walloping from their opponents on Feb. 5.
This time it came at the hands of the Quest Kermodes who came into the matchup sitting in the seventh seed in BCCAA standings, one spot above the Kwantlen Eagles, although their record is substantially better at 5-7.
The dominant Kermodes squad put up 31 points in the first quarter alone and from there on out handled the Eagles easily. The final score was 80-57 in the game played at Kwantlen’s Surrey campus.
Ruth Thanert lead her team in the victory with 32 points and 7 rebounds, but overall the entire Quest team was firing on all cylinders.
Delainee Behrns and Nicola Hitchcock in particular were the other big contributors for the away team. Behrns had 14 points and Hitchcock finished the game with 8, including an impressive 10 rebounds.
Rebounds were a huge contributing factor in the outcome of the game. Quest controlled 63 per cent of the rebounds, while Kwantlen only had 37 per cent.
For the Eagles, it was another disheartening loss. The women’s team had come off of two thumping losses dealt to them by the third place UNBC Timberwolves last weekend in Prince George.
Leading the way for the Eagles in the loss to the Kermodes was Taminder Dhaliwal with 16 points, who was the only Eagles player to hit double digits in scoring.
Behind her, there just wasn’t enough production from her supporting cast to match the strong and dynamic Kermodes offence. Oxana Senyuk had only 9 points in the entire game, and Courtney Parker was only able to produce 8 of her own.
For the Eagles, the game on Friday night spoke a lot for the way their entire season has gone.
Kwantlen hasn’t been able to muster nearly as much offensively as what they are allowing defensively. This season, the Eagles have only produced 688 points and given up 977 in the 13 regular season games they have played.
Up next for the Eagles in following week’s action; Kwantlen goes on the road to visit the second place team VIU Mariners.
