A black bear visited Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s (KPU) Surrey campus on May 21. Campus security received a phone call alerting them to the bear at around 7 a.m.
The bear was spotted multiple times around campus, including in the courtyard of the Cedar building where it was cornered by security. The bear then escaped through the Grassroots’ patio and ran across 126 St and into the Kwantlen Square parking lot.
Students should not be concerned for their safety, but should be aware that the bear was easily frightened. Students are urged to remain calm and not approach the bear if it returns. Instead, students should immediately contact campus security at 778-578-6312.
