After university life moved online, students have gotten used to opening up their laptops to log into lectures, attend events, and sweat through midterms. The fun of summer is over, but there is still a chance to enjoy the month of October with this year’s THRIVE Month hosted by KPU.

The normally week-long THRIVE event series will now take place throughout the entire month. During October, students, faculty, and staff can participate in different activities that promote fun, positive health, and overall wellness.

“Considering that many KPU students and staff are learning and working from home, spending increased time near their computers, and are perhaps more isolated from their friends and colleagues, we decided to increase the number of events so there is more opportunity to engage, and spread the events out over four weeks,” wrote Megan Matthews, KPU’s Student Health Promotion Coordinator in an email to The Runner.

The theme of this year’s THRIVE Month is “Connection,” and there are over 40 virtual events and activities hosted by different KPU and KSA departments and services.

A few exciting upcoming events include Cardio Kickboxing classes every Tuesday starting Oct. 13, a Mind, Body, Spirit Feather Collage workshop led by Indigenous artist Melanie Rivers on Oct. 20, Myth Busters: Nutrition Edition on Oct. 22, Trivia Tuesday: THRIVE Edition on Oct .27, and a Halloween Movie Night featuring The Quiet Place on Oct. 29.

“There are also free virtual fitness classes, weekly TED Talk discussions, an Instagram cooking challenge from Orientation and Transitions, and much more,” Matthews writes.

Aside from these events, there will be a THRIVE Bingo contest for a chance to win one of five $50 gift cards. Students can play by printing out a bingo sheet and checking off THRIVE events that they participate in.

“All students have to do is attend THRIVE events, take a screenshot to show us you attended, and complete a full line on the official THRIVE Bingo sheet,” Matthews writes.

THRIVE Bingo will run through the entire month and is only available for students to participate in. The prizes will be drawn on Nov. 3.
