This summer, the Career Development Centre introduced virtual drop-in sessions. The sessions run every Tuesday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm and every Thursday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

“Given that student services are presently not being delivered in-person on campus, the Career Development Centre (CDC) is now offering alternate online options for students to engage with our team about job search and career exploration,” wrote Julia Denker, Director of the Career Development Centre, in an email to The Runner.

The CDC provides students with career-related workshops and mock interviews to help them prepare for the job market. It also connects employers and students through social networking systems such as Facebook and Twitter.

The virtual drop-ins are designed for students who have questions but lack time to make an appointment with a career development coach.

“We just started rolling out this drop-in career coaching feature and so far have only received a few guests, but greatly encourage students to try it out. It’s a quick and easy way to get an answer to a job search question,” she wrote.

Students can easily log in at any time during the live session, which is held through Microsoft Teams. They are also free to leave as soon as their questions are answered.

Through the session, they can learn about resume writing, interview preparation, LinkedIn, and any other matters related to job search or career exploration.

To take part in the virtual sessions, students can visit the Career Development website and click on the link for their weekly e-newsletter. They can also log in to Career Connection, KPU’s online job board, to find the link to the sessions.

“Alternatively, students can book a private 30-minute appointment for a more in-depth discussion about job search and career exploration with a career coach if they prefer,” wrote Denker.
